Polytechnic School Honors MLK Day with Community, Music, and Resilience

Polytechnic School observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day in collaboration with Drs. Jackie and David Jacobs, who marched with Dr. King in Selma, Alabama. Pasadena and Altadena community members gathered in honor of Dr. King’s legacy and fight for human rights. Poly Middle School History Teacher Dr. Robert Farrar led a call to action, Student Community Engagement Coordinator Renée Pickering Larios sang “We Shall Overcome” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” and the Upper School Jazz Ensemble performed under the direction of Dr. Megan Foley. Elected officials, including Congresswoman Judy Chu, also spoke. We are thrilled that the MLK, Jr. celebration continued despite the fires that affected many in attendance, a true testament to the resilience of those involved.
