PUSD Hosts Informational Cafes for Parents of Students Entering Kindergarten, Middle and High School

Making the transition from preschool to kindergarten, elementary to middle school and middle to high school is a daunting prospect for most parents as children’s developmental and academic needs change. To help parents navigate school level transitions successfully, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) is offering a series of informational cafés in English and Spanish this spring.

“The way that parents relate to schools changes with each stage and it’s important that parents be prepared to navigate the transitions so that children achieve at high levels,” said Superintendent Jon R. Gundry, who noted that parent engagement is one of the strategic priorities in PUSD’s strategic plan. “Knowing what to expect at each school level, how to support their child’s learning, and how to access the numerous academic enrichment resources in our community are crucial to achieving academic excellence for all students.”

Hosted by schools, PUSD’s Welcome Center and Pasadena LEARNs, the cafés are free and childcare is provided. The schedule is below.

For information on other ways that parents can partner with schools, go to www.pusd.us or call the Welcome Center at (626) 396-3600, ext. 88340.
