Ramona Convent Graduates Climb for Change
This summer, 14 brave members from the Class of 2023 took a school-sponsored trip to the birthplace of American outdoor climbing with the help of a Climbing For Change Adventure Outside Grant.
Students met up at Ramona bright and early with Dr. Matthew Carrillo-Vincent, English Department Chair, and Mrs. Veronica Fernandez, Director of Marketing, before heading out to Stoney Point Park in Chatsworth for a half-day adventure of roped climbing on the crag! All but two students had never climbed before, but with the support of the group, all experienced some great successes. With expert instruction from a team at REI they first learned the basics of tying in, climbing, and belaying. And the instructors didn’t go easy – there were a range of climbs with varying levels of difficulty, everyone belayed for each other, and all were challenged to push themselves outside their comfort zone.
Dr. Vincent shared “In the end, it was a truly joyful day – and it was honestly hard to leave at the end! We are so deeply grateful for C4C for this opportunity, and we can’t wait to get back on the wall.”
Ramona, celebrating a legacy of 134 years of distinction, is a welcoming Catholic college-prep high school for young women committed to excellence in education.
