San Marino Unified School District Welcomes Sarah Penalora as New Assistant Principal of San Marino High School

The San Marino Unified School District is delighted to announce the appointment of Sarah Penalora as the new Assistant Principal of San Marino High School. Mrs. Penalora joins our District with substantial experience and a proven track record of high-quality educational leadership. She currently serves as an Assistant Principal at Rosemead High School, where she has played a pivotal role in fostering student-centered learning environments, teacher growth, professional development, curriculum enhancement, and school-wide safety initiatives.

In her current role at Rosemead High School, Mrs. Penalora’s responsibilities encompass a diverse range of areas including teacher collaboration, curriculum design, assessments, and the implementation of multi-tiered support systems and interventions. Her expertise in fostering collaborative environments and nurturing professional growth among educators has significantly contributed to the success of her current school community.

Mrs. Penalora’s journey in education is a testament to her dedication and commitment. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from Cal State University, San Diego, and her Master’s degree in English from Cal Poly Pomona. Additionally, she earned her Single Subject credential in English at Point Loma Nazarene and her Administrative Credential at Concordia University.

Prior to her tenure as an administrator at Rosemead High School, she held various influential positions within the Temple City Unified School District. These roles include serving as an athletic director, WASC Curriculum Focus Chair, English/ELD Department Chair, and a distinguished AP/Honors English Teacher.

Board President Shelley Ryan expressed her enthusiasm for Mrs. Penalora’s appointment, stating, “Mrs. Penalora possesses the skills, vision, qualifications, and experience we were looking for in a highly effective assistant principal. She will bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise to San Marino High School.”

Sarah Penalora’s connections to the community go beyond her professional achievements. She resides just a few blocks away in Pasadena, reflecting her close connection with the San Marino community. Furthermore, her devotion to family is evident as she has been married to her loving husband, Robert, for 24 years. Together, they have raised two sons—Matthew, 24, and Zachary, who will celebrate his 19th birthday this coming Friday.

Mrs. Penalora’s extensive experience and passion for fostering student growth and community collaboration make her an exceptional addition to the San Marino Unified School District team. Mrs. Penalora will begin her new role with San Marino High School the day after Labor Day weekend. We are confident that she will play a pivotal role in advancing the educational excellence for which our District is renowned.
