St. Rita Students Honor Hispanic Heritage, Learning About Influential LA Figures

One of St. Rita School’s four Schoolwide Learning Expectations is that a St. Rita student strives to become a globally aware citizen. Celebrating this core competency, Mrs. Aurora Rueda has been marking Hispanic Heritage Month with lessons in art and culture complimenting students’ weekly Spanish classes.

First, Second, and Third Graders learned this week about three significant Los Angeles figures and their important contributions to the community: Gloria Molina, the first Latina elected to the California State Assembly, Los Angeles City Council, and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors; David Salas, famed music producer and advocate for Chicano musicians; and Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina astronaut to travel to space.
