Pasadena police detectives use security video camera footage from nearby businesses Tuesday to determine that a man found hanging in an inner courtyard of an Old Pasadena building had committed suicide.
The deceased middle-aged man was discovered by a passerby in the courtyard of a commercial building at the corner of North Fair Oaks Avenue and Holly Street, who alerted police at about 7:30 a.m.
“We had a crime scene there for a couple hours,” said Pasadena Police Lt. Pete Hettema, who said officers originally considered the death might be suspicious.
However Hettema said that once detectives were able to obtain and view security videos, they concluded the man had killed himself.
“They had some very specific video that they found in one of the businesses there that took away any doubt that anybody else had been involved in this,” Hettema said. “We have we have now determined it definitely is a suicide.”
No other information has been released regarding the identity of the victim pending identification by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner and notification of next of kin.
