Vroman’s Bookstore Offers 99-Cent Shipping for Cooped Up Readers in L.A. County

Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena has decided to close all of its physical stores – which includes Vromans, Book Soup and Vroman’s Hastings Ranch – due to the COVID-19 national emergency and the need for social distancing. The temporary closure is planned for two weeks beginning Tuesday, March 17, Vroman’s Bookstore said in an announcement on social media.

At the same time, all events on the calendar at their stores have been canceled throughout the month of April, the announcement said. These include all author events, story times, reading group meetings, workshops and craft events.

Despite the closures, business will continue online, and Vroman’s will continue to offer curb-side pickup for phone orders. The bookstore is also offering shipping of all online orders for only 99 cents throughout Los Angeles County.

To avail of the 99-cent shipping, customers need only visit www.vromansbookstore.com and www.booksoup.com, select their orders, and select “99¢ Media Mail LA County” at checkout.

Curb-side pickup will be available only at the bookstore’s Colorado Blvd. branch during their revised business hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. To order and avail of the service, customers are advised to call (626) 449-5320.

If the product is in stock, Vroman’s will have it ready in two hours, according to the announcement. Staff will bring out the orders to customers at a designated spot in the store’s parking lot.

“Crisis or not, our mission remains the same: to keep you engaged and connected to the world, and to foster community,” Vroman’s said in the announcement. “We may be isolated temporarily, but that doesn’t mean we’re alone!”
