Award-winning author Gayle Forman will discuss her latest novel “After Life” in conversation with fellow writer Lauren Oliver at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on Monday, April 28, 7 to 8 p.m.
The event features Forman’s newest work that explores the boundary between life and death through the story of Amber, a teenage girl who inexplicably returns home seven years after her fatal bicycle accident.
“After Life” follows the emotional aftermath of Amber’s mysterious resurrection as she reconnects with her now-older sister, navigates her parents’ estrangement, and discovers how her death affected friends, her boyfriend and even casual acquaintances. The narrative simultaneously examines Amber’s own existential questions about her identity and the purpose behind her second chance at life.
Forman has written several bestselling novels for young adults and adults, including “Not Nothing,” the “Just One” series, and “If I Stay,” which topped the New York Times bestseller list. “If I Stay” has been translated into more than 40 languages and adapted into a major motion picture in 2014.
Before becoming a novelist, Forman worked as a journalist. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her family.
Lauren Oliver has written numerous young adult novels including “Panic,” the Delirium trilogy: “Delirium,” “Pandemonium,” and “Requiem,” and “Before I Fall,” which became a major motion picture in 2017. Panic was also turned into a series by Amazon studios
Vroman’s Bookstore encourages attendees to purchase copies of “After Life,” noting that book sales help make these conversation and discussion events possible.
