That night is Friday, August 28, when the Los Angeles band Caught A Ghost plays the sixth and final date on the Sunset Sessions schedule One Colorado published for the summer. The concert runs from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the courtyard at 41 Hugus Alley. Admission is free and the show is open to all ages. The bar, hosted by the restaurant Javier’s, is limited to guests 21 and older.
The run opened June 12 with Stefan Poole. Carly O’Neill followed on June 26, Healing Gems on July 10, Morgan St. Jean on July 24, and Pocket Change on August 14. Six Fridays, one courtyard.
One Colorado describes the series as “an evening of live music, sunset ambiance, and expertly crafted libations hosted by Javier’s.” Organizers request an RSVP through Eventbrite. The concert is free regardless.
The courtyard sits at the center of One Colorado, an outdoor shopping and dining district that runs about a block and a half through Old Pasadena. The Old Pasadena Management District describes the space as “designed in the tradition of European town squares” and counts it among the district’s public gathering places.
Caught A Ghost is a project of the Los Angeles singer, songwriter and producer Jesse Nolan. The name comes from an old expression. Blues musicians once used it to mean “you caught a ghost if you gave a good performance,” Nolan said in an artist biography published by the Minneapolis venue First Avenue.
Drivers have several options. The courtyard is at 41 Hugus Alley, Pasadena, CA 91103. One Colorado places its parking structure at the southeast corner of Fair Oaks Avenue and Union Street. Old Pasadena’s three Park & Walk garages — De Lacey at 45 South De Lacey Avenue, Marriott at 171 North Raymond Avenue, and Schoolhouse at 33 East Green Street — charge $1 for the first two hours, $2 an hour after that, and $12 for a full day. Metered street parking runs until 2:00 a.m. on Fridays and costs $1.25 an hour in the core of the district. The Old Pasadena Management District directs transit riders to the Memorial Park and Del Mar rail stations. The courtyard was built to be a gathering place. On the last Friday in August, it gets one more summer evening to be one.
