The giveaway is part of the center’s ongoing effort to keep nutritious food within reach of older adults. Volunteers hand out preassembled bags on the patio, and organizers suggest bringing a reusable bag or a pull-behind cart to carry the haul home. No registration is required.
The produce comes through the Order of Malta Mobile Ministries, a nonprofit that has run a fleet of vans across Los Angeles since 2019, delivering fresh fruits and vegetables rescued through the food-recovery organization Food Forward to communities in need. The group also partners with the center on a monthly food pantry for low-income seniors.
Founded in 1960, the Pasadena Senior Center serves adults 50 and older, and residency in Pasadena is not required to take part. The vegetable distribution is one of several food resources the center helps coordinate throughout the year.
The Pasadena Senior Center fresh produce giveaway will take place Friday, July 17, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and recurs the third Friday of each month. Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., Pasadena.
