A handful of succulents is waiting on South Lake Avenue this morning.

PASARROYO, the certified-green office campus anchoring 251 S. Lake Ave., is marking Earth Day by giving away free plants at its Central Plaza on Wednesday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to noon. Cacti and succulents are available one per person while supplies last, with no advance registration. Those interested can stop by the Central Plaza.

The giveaway is part of PASARROYO’s Tenant Experience Program, according to the campus’s event listing. The same program has offered complimentary electric vehicle charging for tenants throughout April. PASARROYO holds LEED Gold certification, an EPA Energy Star score of 90, and a collection of building performance designations that include BOMA 360 and the WELL Health-Safety Rating, according to the campus’s official website. The complex also maintains an active beehive on the sixth level of its parking structure as part of what the campus describes as an urban ecological awareness initiative.

The Pasarroyo giveaway is one of several Earth Day activities taking place in Pasadena on Wednesday. Pasadena Transit and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride are offering free fares all day, and the City of Pasadena Public Works Department is hosting a community forum on the Brookside Park Stormwater Capture Project that evening at 1133 Rosemont Ave. The Pasadena City Council proclaimed April as Earth Month on March 30, 2026.

The Central Plaza is at 251 S. Lake Ave. Metro Gold Line riders can disembark at the Del Mar station.

Among the small pots waiting on a table in the plaza, one cactus is not thinking about Earth Month at all.
