Arts + Connections for Families runs from 11 a.m. to noon on November 4 at the Main Library Community Room. The free, all-ages session led by trained art therapists from Maple Counseling requires advance registration through the library’s event system.
The event builds on therapeutic art sessions Maple Counseling launched in July at the Santa Catalina Branch Library, specifically targeting families affected by the Eaton Fire. The January blaze caused an estimated $250 billion to $275 billion in total economic impact across Los Angeles County, according to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.
Randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that art therapy effectively reduces post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms in children and adolescents, with treatment gains maintained three to six months after intervention, according to a systematic review published in Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry in September 2025.
Founded in 1972, Maple Counseling has served more than 300,000 people across Los Angeles County. The nonprofit operates as a teaching clinic with an average session cost of $27, offering sliding scale fees and free services for those unable to pay.
