Small groups of audience members will wind through the mansion’s carefully preserved rooms, encountering songs, dances, and stories from various Broadway eras performed in intimate settings throughout the house. The production represents an ambitious synthesis of historic preservation and theatrical innovation, asking audiences to experience familiar Broadway material in unfamiliar contexts.
The venue itself carries significant cultural weight. Designed by renowned architects Charles and Henry Greene for David B. Gamble, son of Procter & Gamble co-founder James Gamble, and completed between 1908 and 1909, the Westmoreland Place residence stands as a masterpiece of American Craftsman style. Now, more than a century later, its rooms will serve as atmospheric backdrops for a journey through American musical theatre history.
Prospective attendees should note accessibility limitations. “Due to the historic nature of the venue, the performances are not fully accessible,” according to The Gamble House. “Guests will encounter low light and stairs throughout.”
Broadway Gamble Ramble will run on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. The Gamble House, 4 Westmoreland Place, Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 793-3334 or visit https://gamblehouse.org/mec-events/broadway/. Ticket prices: $54.22 general admission; $43.82 for seniors and students.
