The Huntington’s 2026 Founders’ Day program will spotlight the deep ties between Caltech and The Huntington through a public conversation on how science and the humanities together can navigate contemporary challenges.

On Feb. 12, Caltech President Thomas F. Rosenbaum and Huntington President Karen R. Lawrence are set to discuss their institutions’ long-standing partnership, Rosenbaum’s defining moments as Caltech’s ninth president and professor of physics, and the role of evidence-based inquiry alongside humanistic perspectives.

Founders’ Day is observed annually at The Huntington “in honor of Henry E. and Arabella Huntington’s roles in envisioning and establishing the institution.” Each year, the program explores topics connected to The Huntington and the history of its San Gabriel Valley setting.

Lawrence has described The Huntington as embodying “a humanistic approach that highlights curiosity, empathy, and aesthetic appreciation,” while Rosenbaum has said his job has been to sustain Caltech’s culture and its “defense of evidence-based inquiry.”

The event is free with reservation and will be offered both in person at Rothenberg Hall and via livestream.

Founders’ Day 2026 | The Huntington and Caltech: Science and the Humanities, Pasadena and Beyond will run on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at 7 to 8 p.m. Rothenberg Hall at The Huntington, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, California.
