Local elected officials and community leaders will gather Saturday, Dec. 6, for the 105th annual Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony and Winterfest, a tradition recognized as the nation’s oldest large-scale outdoor Christmas lights display.

The free community celebration begins with Winterfest and pre-ceremony performances from 3 to 9 p.m. The lighting ceremony itself runs from 6 to 6:30 p.m. along Santa Rosa Avenue at Mariposa Street in Altadena.

Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, State Assemblymember John Harabedian, and U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu are scheduled to participate, with actor Edward James Olmos serving as emcee. Christmas Tree Lane Association President Scott Wardlaw will join them, along with the Porter-Self and Skidmore families, honored during the lighting countdown. Performances will feature the Muir High School Choir and local arts groups.

This year’s ceremony carries special meaning following the devastation of the January Eaton Fire. The surviving historic deodar trees along Christmas Tree Lane stand as symbols of hope, resilience, and community strength. Barger will join residents, leaders, and volunteers to honor those impacted, reflect during a candlelight moment, and celebrate as the Lane illuminates for the holiday season.

Every winter, nearly a mile of towering deodar cedar trees along Santa Rosa Avenue comes alive with thousands of glowing lights. The all-volunteer Christmas Tree Lane Association has kept this tradition alive for more than a century through donations, sponsorships, and countless volunteer hours.
