The dream of moving to Spain just got a little less intimidating and a lot more exciting. Spanish Skies: A Practical Guide to Relocating and Flourishing in Spain, by Pasadena Now’s own Eddie Rivera, is now available on Amazon.

Spain was recently named one of  “The Nine Happiest Countries in the World,” and the desire to move there has seemingly never been greater, Rivera noted.

”When I first visited Spain a dozen years ago,” he said. “I felt like I’d come home, though it was only my first-ever trip to Europe. I knew one day I’d live there, but until I do, I can help others get there.”

Rivera will be signing his new book on Friday, January 9, at 6:30 p.m, at a private home in Pasadena. Information on the event is available here.

Rivera, who has spent more than three decades reporting on everything from travel to sports to theater and music, has turned his attention to a subject close to many travelers’ hearts: what it really takes to live well in Spain. Drawing on both research and lived experience, he shares straightforward advice about finding a home, navigating healthcare, learning the language, and settling into Spanish culture without losing your footing.

The book, says Rivera,  is equal parts handbook and conversation with a trusted friend who’s been there before. A lot.

”As the US begins to shut its doors even tighter,” Rivera said, “Spain is throwing theirs open, so the book is practical information on everything from visas to Valencia, and taxes to tapas.”

The book also marks the very first publication from Los Angeles–based Mosher Avenue Publishing, an independent press devoted to championing fresh, useful, and diverse voices. With Spanish Skies, they’re opening their list by giving readers a new resource that feels less like a textbook and more like a guide you actually want to take along for the journey.
