Following his speech, the bestselling author and podcaster will lead an unscripted Q&A session that organizers describe as sure to be “both inspiring and impactful” at 7:30 p.m.
Gladwell’s appearance coincides with the release of his newest book, “Revenge of the Tipping Point: Overstories, Superspreaders, and the Rise of Social Engineering,” published Oct. 1. The new work examines how social influences spread rapidly during times of political upheaval and technological disruption, building upon his groundbreaking 2000 publication, “The Tipping Point.”
His original “Tipping Point” remained on bestseller lists for more than 400 weeks, establishing a new genre that combines social science, history, pop culture, and business insights.
Gladwell, recognized among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People and Foreign Policy’s Top Global Thinkers, has authored eight New York Times bestsellers throughout his career.
A recipient of the National Magazine Award and honors from American Psychological and Sociological societies, Gladwell is also a member of the Order of Canada and holds an honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Toronto.
The speaker maintains parallel roles as a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1996 and co-founder of Pushkin Industries, producing podcasts “Revisionist History” and “Broken Record.”
His Pasadena appearance marks the second of six presentations in the Distinguished Speaker Series, sponsored by Rusnak Auto Group and LAist, with upcoming speakers including Sanja Gupta, Kevin Fedarko and Pete McBride, Zanny Minton Beddoes, and Emily Chang.
The Distinguished Speaker Series, now in its 28th season, offers subscription packages ranging from $240 to $550 for all five remaining evenings. No individual speaker tickets are available.
