The Father’s Day event, called “Kick a Football on the Rose Bowl Field, Father’s Day Stadium Tour,” runs as two separate tours — one at 10 a.m. and one at 2 p.m. Tickets are $65, and 100 percent of proceeds go to Pasadena Heritage, one of California’s largest historic preservation organizations. Founded in 1977, the nonprofit has helped safeguard local landmarks including the Rose Bowl itself, the Colorado Street Bridge, and Old Pasadena.
The Rose Bowl Stadium, at 1001 Rose Bowl Dr., was originally designed by architect Myron Hunt and has been continuously in use since 1922, evolving with later additions and upgrades. It is a National Historic Landmark and has been home to UCLA Bruins football since 1982. Otherwise, the stadium opens to the public for guided tours roughly once a month under its own program; the Father’s Day visit is a separate Pasadena Heritage fundraiser.
Tours are led by Rose Bowl docents. According to the event listing posted on Pasadena Heritage’s ticketing site, the tour will move “through spaces most people never see, including the original 1922 locker rooms, press box, broadcast center, and out onto the field itself.” The same listing describes the visit as “equal parts architecture, infrastructure, and lived history,” and frames the tour as “a look at the Rose Bowl as a place, how it works, how it’s changed, and what’s taken place there along the way.”
Pasadena Heritage’s mission, according to the organization, is to identify, preserve and protect Pasadena’s historic architectural, arts and cultural resources through advocacy and education. The Rose Bowl is one of several Pasadena landmarks the organization has helped preserve over its nearly 50-year history.
Tickets are available through Zeffy, a fundraising platform Pasadena Heritage uses to ensure the full ticket price reaches the organization. The Father’s Day tour is one of a regular slate of walking tours, lectures, and architectural events the nonprofit runs throughout the year.
