When the doors open at All Saints Church this Friday evening, audiences will step into a time-honored Pasadena tradition that has become as much a part of the season as twinkling lights and carols. The Holiday Candlelight concert, an annually sold-out event, makes its return with three performances featuring Broadway star Sarah Uriarte Berry as the featured vocalist.

Berry’s resume reads like a greatest hits of contemporary theater. She created the role of Franca in “The Light in the Piazza” at Lincoln Center Theater, earning both Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations. She has played Belle in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and Eponine in “Les Misérables.” A UCLA graduate, Berry also performed in the Royal National Theatre production of “Carousel,” which won a Dramalogue Award for Production when it toured nationally.

Larry Blank, the Pasadena Symphony and POPS’ Resident Pops Conductor, will conduct the ensemble. Blank has been nominated three times for both the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for his Broadway orchestrations on “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas,” and “Catch Me If You Can.”

The concert features the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, the Donald Brinegar Singers, the JPL Chorus—a unique ensemble of approximately 50 JPL employees—and the LA Bronze Handbell Ensemble. The approximately 75-minute concert will include “The First Noel,” “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “The Christmas Song,” selections from “The Nutcracker,” the “Hallelujah” Chorus, and “Sleigh Ride.”

The venue, All Saints Church at 132 N. Euclid Ave., is described as “architecturally exquisite and acoustically sonorous.” Doors open one hour prior to each performance with no late seating permitted.
