The library will provide mini pumpkins, acrylic paint, tacky glue and embellishments for the event running from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on October 18. Participants need only bring their creativity, with one mini pumpkin available per person while supplies last.
The Hill Avenue Branch has served Pasadena from the same building since May 6, 1925, making it the oldest library building in the city’s system.
Designed by the renowned Pasadena architectural firm Marston, Van Pelt and Maybury, the 4,752-square-foot building houses 32,109 items, including the system’s Asian-language collection with materials in Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese.
The event comes as the Pasadena Public Library system celebrates winning the CLA PRExcellence Award for its 140th anniversary celebration.
Library Director Tim McDonald, appointed in December 2022, highlighted the library’s community role. “I am honored and humbled to have been selected by the city manager to lead the Pasadena Public Library,” McDonald said. “I am fortunate to have an amazing team in place to support our future endeavors and generations who have grown up in our libraries.”
Patrons requiring accessibility accommodations should contact the library at least 72 hours in advance.
Mini Pumpkin Decorating will run on Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Hill Avenue Branch Library, 55 South Hill Avenue, in Pasadena.
