Runners, volunteers, and community members will gather this Sunday morning, June 22 for the first-ever “Langham Pink Charity Run 5K,” hosted by the Langham Huntington in Pasadena as part of a global anniversary celebration by Langham Hotels and Resorts.
The event, which launches from the historic hotel near San Marino, and winds through the surrounding neighborhoods including South Lake Avenue and areas near Polytechnic School, is part of Langham’s 160th anniversary festivities. The brand’s original hotel in London opened its doors in 1865, and sister properties around the world—including in New York, Chicago, Boston, and Hong Kong—are marking the milestone with similar runs.
“This started off as a celebration of the brand’s anniversary,” said Leslie Marks, marketing and communication director for the Langham Huntington. “But we also saw this as a meaningful way to connect with the community, especially in light of what happened earlier this year with the tragic wildfires.”
The event is being produced in partnership with the Pasadena Run Club and has drawn a full field of nearly 200 runners, as well as dozens of volunteers and local sponsors.
Registration fees from the race will benefit the “Lowlife Respectable Citizens Club,” or LRCC, a local nonprofit focused on trail restoration throughout the San Gabriel Mountains. The volunteer organization has been active in post-fire recovery efforts following the Woolsey Fire, Bobcat Fire, and most recently the Eaton Fire, which severely impacted local foothill communities.
“They do a lot of important work that not a lot of people may be aware of,” said Marks. “They were themselves affected by the fire, and this will be a big help to them.”
While the race field has reached capacity, Mark said a few last-minute cancellations may leave limited spots open. Organizers hope to expand future events in response to strong interest from the public.
“In light of the success and enthusiasm we’ve seen, and the fact that so many people wanted to participate but couldn’t, we’re definitely looking to do more events with the Pasadena Run Club,” said Marks.
The “Huntington Pink 5K” will start and finish at the Langham Huntington this Saturday. Runners can expect a festive atmosphere with vendor booths, refreshments, and community spirit—all in the name of recovery and resilience.
The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is at 1401 S. Oak Knoll Ave., in Pasadena. (626) 568-3900.
