Before the trivia show starts, the patio belongs to a singer who is still rebuilding her house in Altadena.
Céleigh Chapman performs a free acoustic set from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday on the patio at The Crawford, LAist’s studio at 474 South Raymond Avenue, an hour ahead of a ticketed taping of the pop-culture trivia podcast “Go Fact Yourself.” The set is presented by Altadena Musicians, a nonprofit that places replacement instruments with players who lost theirs in the Eaton Fire. The patio hour requires no ticket, Altadena Musicians said. The taping that follows does.
The taping runs from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Hosts J. Keith van Straaten and Helen Hong will quiz actor and director Adam Arkin and actor and comedian Laci Mosley, along with unnamed surprise experts. General admission registration is free; a guaranteed seat costs $20. LAist said the lineup is subject to change and that the program may contain some mature language or themes.
Concessions open at 3:00 p.m. Athletic Brewing, a non-alcoholic brewer, is sponsoring a free brew tasting on the patio.
Chapman and her husband, Marty, are rebuilding their home in Altadena, and she grew up singing country standards in the juke joints of Bakersfield, LAist said. Her EP “Easy Now” came out in May 2022.
Altadena Musicians describes its mission as restoring the power of music to people affected by natural disasters by putting instruments, gear and resources back into their hands. Composer Brandon Jay founded the organization. He and his wife, composer Gwendolyn Sanford, lost their home, their studio and all but two of their instruments in the Eaton Fire, which began January 7, 2025, in Eaton Canyon and moved into Altadena, the unincorporated county community immediately north of Pasadena.
“The instruments we lost are irreplaceable, but we can help create new memories,” Jay said in a statement published by Altadena Musicians.
“Go Fact Yourself” is a production of Maximum Fun and van Straaten Entertainment, inc. The series returns to Pasadena on September 27 and October 25.
