Toddlers Take the Lead in Storytelling Adventure

Library’s free “Read! Build! Play!” event mixes storytime with hands-on fun

The clatter of blocks and the hum of toddlers’ giggles will blend with the cadence of storybook pages turning on Wednesday, April 23, at 11:30 a.m., when the city’s youngest readers will gather not just to listen, but to play, build and imagine.

“Read! Build! Play!” is the Pasadena Public Library’s latest offering in its longstanding commitment to early childhood learning. Designed for toddlers and their caregivers, the free program pairs classic storytime with an interactive play session, aiming to nurture not only early literacy but also creativity, motor skills and emotional expression.

According to the program description, the hands-on session that follows storytime is “designed to develop and reinforce early literacy skills.”

Young participants will be encouraged to “use their creativity, imagination and dexterity,” a method shown to enhance physical, cognitive and emotional development.

The approach aligns with educational models endorsed by the California Department of Education and Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child, which highlight that story-based learning combined with kinesthetic activities fosters deeper comprehension and school readiness.

The event will held at the San Rafael Branch Library, 1240 Nithsdale Road, Pasadena, CA 91105. (626) 744-7270. www.cityofpasadena.net/library.
