The Ice House holds a distinctive place in American comedy history. Opened in 1960 by Willard Chilcott and folk musician Bob Stane, the club spent its first 18 years as a folk-music venue before shifting to stand-up under new ownership in 1978. More than 75 live albums have been recorded on its stage by performers including Lily Tomlin, the Smothers Brothers, Pat Paulsen, Richard Jeni and Gallagher. Lakers co-owner Johnny Buss bought the club in 2019 and reopened it in 2023 after a three-year COVID-era closure and a $4 million renovation. CBS News described the reopened club as “a beautiful venue.”
The California Room — the larger of the club’s two showrooms — is set up cabaret-style with a two-item minimum and is restricted to 21 and over. The lineup for Home By 9 typically rotates monthly and is published on the Ice House’s website ahead of each show.
Tickets are available online and at the door.
Home By 9 Comedy will perform Friday, June 5 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Ice House, 24 N. Mentor Avenue, in Pasadena. For tickets and lineup, visit icehousecomedy.com.
