
“Novocaine” opened atop the box office, taking in $8.7 million during a slow weekend to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The action thriller about a man incapable of feeling physical pain beat out “Mickey 17,” which grossed $7.51 million Friday through Sunday one week after opening in first place, Comscore reported.
Director Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller “Black Bag” opened in third place with $7.5 million.
“Captain America: Brave New World” was fourth with $5.4 million in its fifth weekend, followed by “The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Toons Movie,” which opened with $3.1 million.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “The Last Supper” ($2.8 million), “Paddington in Peru” ($2.7 million), “Dog Man” ($2.5 million), “The Monkey” ($2.4 million) and “Last Breath” ($2.3 million).
This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $52.7 million. The year-to-date total is $1.237 billion — down 4.94% from the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
