Disney’s “Zootopia 2” earned the top spot at the box office this weekend, taking in $26.3 million in its third weekend in North American theaters, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
Universal’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” was in second place with $19.5 million, one week after opening in first place, Comscore reported.
“Wicked: For Good” was third $8.5 million Friday through Sunday in its fourth weekend.
The Indian action film “Dhurandhar” was fourth with $3.45 million in its second week, followed by “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” which grossed another $2.38 million in its fifth weekend.
“Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution” was sixth with $2.102 million in its second weekend.
Writer/director James L. Brooks’ comedic drama “Ella McKay” opened with $2.1 million, a disastrous total for a film with a major marketing push. Brooks, the man behind such beloved classics as “Terms of Endearment” and “Broadcast News” — and a major creative force on “The Simpsons,” “Taxi” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” hadn’t made a feature film in 15 years, when 2010’s “How Do You Know” also bombed.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were a re-release of 2000’s “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas” ($1.85 million), “Eternity,” ($1.774 million) and “Hamnet” ($1.5 million).
