The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid combines spacious interiors and a smooth driving experience with the practicality of ample cargo capacity and great fuel efficiency.

For 2023, all RAV4 variants, including the hybrid, have been updated to feature a new, larger center touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. These additions boast improved graphics, an enhanced voice command system, and the capability for wireless software updates, eliminating the need for dealership visits. Additionally, the lineup welcomes the Woodland Edition which is the subject of this review. Built on the XLE configuration, this new trim includes unique bronze-colored wheels, elevated roof rails, all-terrain tires, and a suspension system specifically designed to better manage uneven surfaces and enhance comfort.

Each hybrid model is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). An additional electric motor activates to drive the rear wheels providing all-wheel drive as a standard feature across the RAV4 Hybrid lineup (except for the Woodland Edition the all-wheel drive is intended for wet or icy roads not off-roading). The combined output of the hybrid system is 219 horsepower. The RAV4 Hybrid offers unexpectedly quick acceleration, enhanced by its electric motor, adding an element of fun to the driving experience. The vehicle consistently has ample power for agile maneuvers in traffic and makes great all-out sprints. Expect to get 38/city, 35/highway and 37/combined MPG.

The RAV4 Hybrid offers a comfortable ride for both long journeys and short trips. On the highway, it remains relatively quiet, providing a pleasant driving experience. The climate control system efficiently adjusts the temperature and circulates air evenly throughout the cabin. Entry and exit from both the front and rear seats are hassle-free, and the spacious interior allows ample room for four adults to relax. The RAV4 Hybrid avoids a cramped feel, and visibility is excellent in all directions.

The Woodland Edition enhances the XLE which includes features such as keyless entry with push-button start, heated exterior mirrors, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, five USB ports, a cargo cover, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. Designed for off-road adventures, the Woodland Edition comes equipped with a TRD off-road-tuned suspension, bronze-colored wheels fitted with all-terrain tires, and distinctive Woodland Edition badging.

I really enjoy driving the RAV4. It always has a spirited ride and the Woodland Edition was dressed for adventure.
