Native Americans Drum, Dance in Local Canyon to Celebrate Spring’s “Awakening”

Tongva, Chumash, Navajo, and Choctaw were among the Native American nations represented Saturday in Eaton Canyon as a mini-powow celebrated the awakening of Spring and the culture and crafts of their tribes.

The festival at the Eaton Canyon Nature Center hosted tribal drummers, musicians, dancers, and storytellers. Native artists and crafters presented handcrafted tools, jewelry and art upholding tribal traditions.

Presenters from local wildlife organizations brought with them indigenous creatures including two wolves and a number of snakes.
