Underserved high school students in Pasadena will have a chance to learn the fundamentals of artificial intelligence through a free four-week bootcamp this fall hosted by the Pasadena Educational Foundation.
The bootcamp will be part of the Mark Cuban Foundation’s AI Bootcamp Initiative, which aims to teach AI concepts to students from diverse backgrounds across the U.S.
Billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban founded the initiative in 2019.
The Pasadena Educational Foundation, an active local nonprofit organization that supports Pasadena Unified, was selected as one of over 28 host sites for the fall 2023 bootcamp. This will be the third time that the foundation hosts the bootcamp.
Targeted toward students in grades 9-12, the bootcamp will consist of four sessions on consecutive Saturdays from Oct. 14 to Nov. 4. Sessions are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Trained volunteer corporate mentors who are knowledgeable in AI, machine learning, and data science will lead the students through the curriculum. Throughout the bootcamp, students will learn to work with open source tools and develop their own AI applications related to Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Generative AI.
Students will also learn about the history, applications and ethics of AI, as well as how to use Python programming language and TensorFlow software to create AI projects.
Students who are interested in joining the bootcamp should apply before Friday, Sept. 8,through www.markcubanai.org/pefpr.
The bootcamp is open to students of all skill levels, but they must commit to attending all four sessions.
The Mark Cuban Foundation has hosted no-cost AI bootcamps for students in several U.S. cities, including Dallas, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Atlantic City. These bootcamps have impacted more than 900 students to date.
