Presented by the Special District Leadership Foundation, the award recognizes the District’s adherence to essential governance transparency requirements. These include conducting ethics training for all board members, holding open and public meetings, and timely filing of financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller.
“This award is a testament to San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District’s commitment to open government,” Jason Farned, SGVMVCD Manager, said. “Our staff is to be commended for their contributions that empower the public with information and facilitate engagement and oversight.”
The Special District Leadership Foundation is an independent non-profit organization that promotes good governance and best practices among California’s special districts through certification, accreditation, and other recognition programs.
Special districts are independent public agencies that deliver core local services to communities, such as public health, mosquito abatement, utility, wastewater treatment, fire protection, parks and recreation, healthcare, sanitation, ports, libraries, public cemeteries, and more.
SGVMVCD is one of five vector control districts in Los Angeles County.
SGVMVCD monitors stagnant water sources and mosquito populations year-round. It also tests groups of adult female mosquitoes for the presence of West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases.
