A Saturday afternoon fire damaged six residential structures including a backhouse and garage in Pasadena, displacing two adults and two children and claiming the life of a family dog.

The spreading blaze, reported at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Bell Street, prompted officials to upgrade the response to a second alarm.

The fire primarily affected an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in the property’s backyard, with damage extending to five additional structures at varying degrees of severity.

Fire Chief Augustin took command of the incident because the on-duty Battalion Chief was managing a rescue operation near Eaton Canyon at the time. The incident required coordination of significant resources, including assistance from neighboring jurisdictions.

Crews encountered downed live power lines at the scene, requiring a response from Pasadena Water and Power. Fire investigators were dispatched to the location.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family, while the Pasadena Humane Society responded to handle the deceased dog. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage are not yet known.
