The Rose Bowl’s role in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup concludes Wednesday when Urawa Red Diamonds faces CF Monterrey at 6 p.m. in the final group stage match of a six-game series.
The match marks the end of the iconic stadium’s participation in FIFA’s most ambitious Club World Cup. The tournament features 32 teams for the first time in the competition’s 24-year history.
CF Monterrey must win to advance to the knockout rounds. Urawa Red Diamonds cannot qualify for the next stage.
The expanded tournament started on June 15 and runs to July 13. Previous Club World Cup formats included only six to eight teams.
Pasadena officials announced Holly Street will close between Raymond Avenue and Arroyo Parkway from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday. No on-street parking will be allowed during closure hours.
The Rose Bowl has been the tournament’s largest venue. The stadium previously hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final and 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final.
The opening match between Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid drew 80,619 fans. Tournament attendance has averaged 56.8% of stadium capacity.
The competition offers a $1 billion prize pool. The winning team will receive $125 million.
According to TelecomAsia analysis, CF Monterrey’s advancement also depends on the Inter Milan versus River Plate result.
The tournament final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 13.
