A construction worker was robbed of about $2,000 in cash and sustained minor injuries after being threatened at gunpoint on Monday afternoon, Pasadena Police Lieutenant Monica Cuellar reported.

According to Cuellar, officers responded at approximately 12:24 p.m. to Washington Boulevard and Mentone Avenue regarding an armed robbery.

The victim, a 46-year-old man from Norwalk employed by a construction company, told officers he was meeting with a client when the suspect reached into his vehicle and took his fanny pack containing U.S. currency.

Cuellar said the suspect, described as an African American man with short curly hair, wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie, blue jeans and dark shoes, fled westbound on Washington Boulevard and then southbound on Lincoln Avenue.

The victim chased the suspect, and a struggle ensued. During the confrontation, the suspect threw the fanny pack toward a black vehicle parked on Lincoln Avenue.

As the victim approached the vehicle, a second suspect got out and pointed a black handgun at him, Cuellar said.

The suspect threatened to shoot the victim and kicked him several times on the left side of his body. Both suspects then entered the vehicle and fled. The victim sustained a small abrasion to his finger and complained of pain to his left arm and knee. He was treated at the scene, Cuellar said.

The handgun was described as a black semiautomatic, possibly a 9mm Beretta. No further description of the vehicle was available.
