MonteCedro (formerly Scripps Home for the elderly) the luxury senior housing project proposed for Altadena is taking steps to move forward with the development of their project. The homes that are owned by them and were occupied by tenants until recently have been vacated and fenced off in preparation for DEMOLITION instead of relocation in spite of many of these home being very good candidates for relocation. During one of the many meetings with the community, Episcopal Homes (project owners) was asked to consider making the homes available for relocation and they said they felt this was a good idea and they would do so. Today I was told by a reliable source at the project that the homes were going to be demolished.
To my knowledge, there has been no effort made to advertise these homes for relocation or to reach out to house movers, developers or the general public. Relocating these homes saves the developers of the project money in that they will not have to pay for the demolition, relocation saves useful housing stock and it keeps more trash out of the landfills.
There are twelve homes and two duplexes on the lot plus Glorietta Cottage that is suppose to be kept and relocated within the new project.
Episcopal Homes needs to make more effort in making all the homes possible available for relocation. Why destroy good homes that can possibly be used to add to the affordable housing stock or provide a nice home for a family that would like to have a quality made older home?
