Pasadena City College will be one of the local universities and community colleges that will present 15 prototypes and policies developed to deal with regional and worldwide water issues as part of the Southern California World Water Forum, set for Friday at the Metropolitan Water District Headquarters’ Board Room in downtown Los Angeles.
Many of these projects provide real-world solutions for specific water challenges, according to a news statement.
The presentations are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the MWD’s headquarters, 700 N. Alameda St., adjacent to the historic Union Station, according to the statement.
Pasadena City College’s presentation is entitled “Water, Fish, and Food: Aquaponic Technology and Community Outreach in Times of Water Scarcity.â€
The event is co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County.
The Southern California World Water Forum awards college teams $10,000 grants to research, develop and communicate water-use efficiency technology that can be employed cost-effectively in water-stressed regions, locally or globally.
Since the first World Water Forum launched in late 2004, more than 300 students from more than 20 universities and community colleges have participated in three grant cycles, according to the news statement.
