The Pasadena Accessibility and Disability Commission will consider recommending accessibility upgrades to the city’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) standard plans during its Tuesday meeting.
The commission is scheduled to receive a presentation from City of Pasadena Building Official Jesse De Anda regarding accessible ADU standard plans and building accessibility citywide.
Following the presentation, the commission will discuss and vote on approving comments to send to the Planning Commission recommending specific accessibility upgrades to the ADU plans.
The discussion builds on the commission’s ongoing efforts to communicate with the Building Official regarding ADU updates. Key priorities for the commission include the provision of free, ADA-compliant standard plans and overnight on-street parking passes for ADU residents.
The commission has previously stated it would be beneficial for the city to offer accessible design options, noting that new housing developments include multiple floor plans. The commission has suggested the city consider committing to including an accessible floor plan among the approved standard plans.
In a separate action item, the commission will discuss and potentially approve presenting its newly finalized Guide for Accessible Housing to the City Council and the Pasadena community.
The commission has been developing the guide over several months to provide community members and local partners with resources to improve housing accessibility. Recent efforts have included sharing draft text with the Foothill Catalog to encourage accessible designs in new builds, and meeting with city staff regarding the next steps for presenting the guide to the Planning Department.
The Accessibility and Disability Commission is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 in the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 North Fair Oaks Avenue, in Pasadena 91103. For more information call (626) 744-7311 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.
