All Saints Church presents “An Evening of Spirituality and Beauty with Richard Hearns” on Friday, October 30, 6:00 p.m. in Sweetland Hall at All Saints Church, Pasadena. Don’t miss this extraordinary evening of art and conversation between All Saints rector Ed Bacon and artist Richard Hearns — named one of Ireland’s most important young artists.
Born in Beirut and raised in Dublin, Hearns’ paintings document a search for an idyll. Driven by a deep spiritual sensibility, his experiences and connections with separate locations and cultures are combined to form a triangular history.
All Saints Rector Ed Bacon says, “I got to know Richard Hearns and his beautiful paintings during our journeys to the homeland of the Celtic poet-philosopher, John O’Donohue, on the Western Coast of Ireland. This 35-year old artist and athlete embodies that Celtic spirituality where God is seen and revealed in the beauty of nature. Just as the poet Mary Oliver defines prayer as paying careful attention to creation, Richard Hearns embodies that prayerful attention in his paintings. Richard and I have communed together not only in his village church, in John O’Donohue’s favorite whiskey bar, as well as in gazing at Richard’s paintings. Now you get to see an exhibit of those paintings and join in a conversation we will have about Spirituality and the Creative Process. We will also get to sample the delicious Thai cooking of Richard’s wife, Boo. I hope you will join me for an evening of spirituality and beauty.”
