The Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host its Annual African American Youth Conference on Saturday, April 26 at Pasadena City College. The event, themed “UNAPOLOGETICALLY — Rising to the Point of Excellence,” aims to empower and inspire African American youth through various educational and interactive sessions.
“We are excited to host this important community event and provide a platform for our youth to learn, grow, and connect with mentors and role models,” said Dr. Allison Steppes, President of the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter.
“Our goal is to equip our young people with the tools and knowledge they need to achieve their dreams and make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.”
The conference will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the main campus of Pasadena City College, located at 1580 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. It is open to students ages 12-18 and their parents or adult caregivers from Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles County.
Registration is required but free of charge.
Lunch will be provided, and attendees will have access to an “On the Yard Experience & Resources Fair.” Interested participants can register by clicking here.
The event will feature speakers, workshops, tabletop conversations, and interactive sessions including a Canvas & Conversation Paint Party, Environmental Justice discussions, Social Media literacy training, and “Next Steps & Beyond” guidance.
The conference is supported by several community partners including the Pasadena Delta Foundation, Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation, Pasadena City College Foundation, and Pasadena City College itself.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., founded in 1913 at Howard University, focuses on academic excellence, scholarships, community service, public policy engagement, and problem-solving. The organization has over 350,000 initiated members with more than 1,050 chapters worldwide, including 63 in California.
The Sorority uses its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement to create its national and local programs.
The Pasadena Alumnae Chapter leadership includes Dr. Allison Steppes (President), TyAnne Evans (1st Vice President), Charmagne Parker (2nd Vice President), Melinda Campbell (Treasurer), DeShawn Samad (Financial Secretary), and Vernetta Griffin (Recording Secretary).
