Armed Robbery Interrupted By Passerby

An armed robbery in progress on Monday was interrupted by a passing motorist, police said.

At about 3:30 p.m. Monday, two male teenagers were walking eastbound on Raymond Avenue at the intersection of Montana Street when a car with five men in it approached them, said Pasadena Police Department Lt. Bruce George in a telephone interview. Two men got out of the car, one armed with a handgun, and began searching through the teens’ backpacks, George said.

However, another car drove by and stopped which effectively ended the armed robbery in progress, George said. The group of suspects fled in the vehicle, which was later recovered because the eyewitness was able to capture the license plate information, George said. The type of vehicle that the group purportedly drove to commit the crime was not noted in the police report, according to George.

Police are seeking the two men who allegedly tried to rob the teens, as well as anyone who was involved in the crime by being in the vehicle. The first suspect was described by witnesses as a Hispanic man between 20 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing approximately 180 pounds. The man reportedly has a dark complexion and is clean shaven. The second suspect was described by witnesses as a Hispanic man between 20 and 25 years old, about 6 feet tall, and weighing approximately 150 pounds. The man reportedly has a light complexion and tattoos on both arms.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4501.
