On Nov. 20, 2021, Moreno was playing video games inside his bedroom at his family’s home in the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue when gunfire erupted from a parking lot across the street. One of the bullets entered his bedroom through the window and fatally struck him.
Following an extensive investigation, Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Unit arrested 38-year-old Muhammad Abdul-Malik in Orlando, Florida, on July 11, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest and Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Forces, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Abdul-Malik remains in Florida awaiting extradition to California.
Five days later, on July 16, Pasadena detectives and U.S. Marshals personnel arrested 31-year-old Teraeja Flemmings in the City of San Fernando.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges against both suspects on July 18.
Abdul-Malik faces one count of murder under Penal Code 187(a) and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon under Penal Code 29800(a)(1). His bail was set at $3 million.
Flemmings was charged with one count of murder under Penal Code 187(a). His bail was set at $2 million.
“The tragic loss of Iran Moreno shook our entire community to its core,” District 3 Councilmember Justin Jones told Pasadena Now after learning of the arrests. “He was a child, at home, playing video games, when his life was stolen by senseless violence.”
“To the Moreno family: nothing can erase the heartbreak or the tragedy you’ve endured, but I hope these arrests bring some measure of healing and a step toward peace,” Jones said.
