ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena will honor 11 former faculty members and administrators with emeritus status at its annual awards ceremony next month.
The college will recognize the educators Sept. 27 during the 2025 ArtCenter Awards. Two recipients will receive the honor posthumously.
The group includes seven ArtCenter alumni who later returned as faculty. They worked across multiple disciplines including fine art, graphic design and transportation design.
Provost Anne Burdick said the honorees averaged more than 29 years of service to the college. “These new ArtCenter emeriti have inspired, challenged and guided generations of students,” she said.
Three recipients will receive chair emeritus titles: Wendy Adest, Laura Cooper and Stewart Reed. Eight others will become faculty emeriti.
The faculty emeriti are Lita Albuquerque, Louis Danziger, Gaylord Eckles, Simon Johnston, Gloria Kondrup, Gary Meyer, Ramone Muñoz and Robert Schureman. Meyer and Eckles will receive posthumous recognition.
President Karen Hofmann praised the group’s influence on students and the institution. “The impact this group of individuals has had on ArtCenter, its community, and the thousands of students who have gone on to build distinguished careers is remarkable and immeasurable,” she said.
The ceremony marks the first time ArtCenter will award emeritus titles during its signature annual event. The college considers the awards dinner its most prestigious evening.
The emeritus designation grants lifelong privileges at the college. Recipients represent various graduating classes spanning from 1948 to 1993.
The awards ceremony will take place at ArtCenter’s South Campus in Pasadena. The event coincides with the college’s alumni reunion weekend.
In addition to the emeritus honors, the ceremony will present eight alumni awards covering achievements from 2023 and 2024. Two lifetime achievement awards are among the recognitions.
Founded in 1930, ArtCenter has established itself as a leader in art and design education. The college became the first design school to receive United Nations non-governmental organization status.
