The Pasadena college’s participation runs Friday through Sunday at the annual celebration of artists behind films, animation, games, TV shows and illustrations.
Friday’s panel addresses creative blocks. Associate Chair of Concept Design Fernando Olmedo will lead the 3-4 p.m. discussion in Room 101-102.
Olmedo, a 2014 graduate, will be joined by entertainment designers Scott Zenteno and Tommy Kim. Zenteno graduated in 2015, Kim in 2013.
The trio will discuss techniques for overcoming creative obstacles and rediscovering inspiration. The session is titled “Reigniting Creativity: Finding Flow in Your Art.”
Saturday’s panel explores illustration’s role in pop culture. Illustration Chair Ann Field will moderate the 1:15-2:15 p.m. session in Room 106.
Field will lead a conversation with three illustrators: Bijou Karman, Paul Rogers and Joey Jones. Their work spans publishing, products, film, animation and games.
Karman earned her BFA in 2014. Rogers graduated in 1980, Jones in 2002.
Olmedo has worked on Disney projects including Marvel and Star Wars titles. His portfolio includes video games and theme park design.
He also maintains freelance clients worldwide.
Field oversees an illustration curriculum she describes as “idea-based, design-conscious and linked to pop culture.”
“It’s not about a single technique or style but formulating a personal vocabulary for visual communication,” Field says.
ArtCenter will staff a booth throughout the expo. Attendees can connect with admissions representatives and explore the college’s entertainment design legacy.
