The school records continue to fall as Tuesday’s 3-0, South Coast Conference victory at El Camino College allowed the Pasadena City College women’s soccer team to achieve its best start to a season in program history at 12-1-1.
The start beat the 11-1 beginning of the *inaugural season of PCC women’s soccer back in 1997.
The state #3-ranked Lancers already broke the school record for longest winning streak at seven games earlier this year and last season it was Coach Terryn Soelberg’s ’23 squad that put together the longest undefeated streak at PCC at 13 games (9-0-4).
PCC handed El Camino (7-4-3 overall) its first conference defeat at 3-1-1 while improving to 4-1 in SCC play.
The Lancers got things going in the 22nd minute when Ashley Vera fed Raylyn Laney for her second goal of the season. Angely Puga then netted her fifth goal on a shot just before halftime.
In the 79th minute, Isabela Guerrero scored her third of the year and 14th in her career on a penalty kick.
Francesca Agliolo only had to make one save (the Warriors put eight other shots toward the goal) as the team defense, once again led by the sophomore defender duo of Itzel Nunez and Destiny Delgado, recorded the team’s 10th shutout of the season. ECC’s best chance came in the 41st minute when Claire Mahon hit the post.
The Lancers have the fifth stingiest defense in the state, allowing just 0.50 goals per game in 14 contests.
PCC next hosts LA Harbor College on Friday, Oct. 25 in a 4 p.m. conference kickoff at Robinson Stadium.
