The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority (BGPAA) Commission will vote on the final design concept for the replacement passenger terminal at Hollywood Burbank Airport on April 17. The project, known as Elevate BUR, will resolve long-standing safety and accessibility issues with the current terminal.
The Hollywood Burbank Airport is owned and operated by the tri-city BGPAA. Pasadena Vice Mayor Felicia Williams is the Authority’s Vice President, Pasadena Councilmember Tyron Hampton is its Treasurer and former Councilmember Andy Wilson is an Airport Authority Commissioner.
At Monday’s BGPAA meeting, commissioners were presented with three preliminary design concepts for the 355,000 square foot facility, which will have 14 gates and will be located in the northeast quadrant of the airport. The design concepts were shared by a representative from Corgan, the company providing architectural services for the project.
The renderings for each concept include the terminal’s; entry approach; entry plaza; baggage claim hall; gate lounges; and post-security area. The concepts are named “The Century”, “The Icon”, and “The Paseo”.
Starting the week of March 13, the design concepts will be on display within the airport terminals, at Pasadena City Hall as well as Burbank’s and Glendale’s city halls, and at the public libraries in the city of Burbank. A QR code will also be available for the community to share feedback on the designs.
Voters in the City of Burbank approved the replacement terminal in 2016. For more on Elevate BUR and to see more images of the design concepts, visit www.elevatebur.com.
