Caltech has been ranked No. 8 in University Magazine’s Top 10 Universities for 2021, according to an article published by the magazine Monday.
The ranking was released by Niche, which conducts research on the best colleges, schools, neighborhoods, and companies in the United States and publishes results in easy-to-read report cards, rankings, and reviews to guide students as they choose the right schools or neighborhoods for them.
Niche said it does rigorous cleaning and analysis on large data sets and combines them with feedback from the Niche community to come up with nuanced insight.
In listing the Top 10 Universities, Niche said the ranking is based on rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education, along with millions of reviews from students and alumni.
Caltech is described in the results as “an elite private college located in Pasadena,” a “small institution” with an enrollment of 948 undergraduate students.
“Admissions is extremely competitive as the Caltech acceptance rate is only seven percent. Popular majors include Computer Science, Physics, and Electrical Engineering. Graduating 92 percent of students, Caltech alumni go on to earn a starting salary of $54,500,” the description said.
Niche also ranked Caltech as No. 1 among the Hardest Colleges to Get Into in America, out of 1,660; No. 1 Best Small College, out of 978; and No. 1 among 451 of the Best Colleges for Physics in America for 2021.
