Caltech’s Resnick Sustainability Institute is presenting a seminar on “Organizational Physics and Building Teams” for aspiring entrepreneurs on Monday, Aug. 26, featuring Evan Tsang, a partner at Skylar Consulting and cofounder of Quroba.
The seminar, part of Caltech’s monthly Charge Up! Entrepreneurship Series, will explore how industry teams differ from those in graduate school.
“How do teams in industry differ from graduate school? And how quickly do scaling effects start – and why? Join us for a discussion about organizational physics which underlie the development of any organization – and get a flavor for what you’re going to face when growing your company,” the RSI said in an announcement about the event.
Tsang, a Caltech 1999 BS Mechanical Engineering alumnus with experience in manufacturing, program management, and entrepreneurship, will lead the discussion. His career spans roles at major corporations like General Motors and Novartis, as well as several startups in the medical technology sector.
Tsang has supported innovators at various academic institutions including Caltech, USC, UCLA, Cal State LA, and UC Irvine. He has served on the Chang Prize Committee and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Caltech Alumni Association.
Launched in 2023, the Charge Up! Entrepreneurship Series, Caltech’s broader initiative to provide mentorship and education on the startup process, aims to equip students, postdocs, and faculty with valuable knowledge about entrepreneurship.
The program covers topics such as assessing technology for commercial value, fundraising strategies for early-stage ventures, and navigating intellectual property issues. The moderated workshops are intended to be interactive, encouraging individuals to ask questions and make connections.
Monday’s seminar will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Conference Room 109 of the Earl M. Jorgensen Building at Caltech.
