Friends In Deed has launched its annual “Christmas for the Kids” holiday gift drive at Vroman’s Bookstore, inviting Pasadena residents to donate gifts for children whose families rely on the nonprofit’s services. The program, now in its 11th year, is hosted in the bookstore’s Kids Department, with donations accepted through Dec. 15.
Participants can select a snowflake tag from the Giving Tree displays, each listing a child’s age and gift preferences. Gifts may be purchased at Vroman’s or brought from other stores, but must be unwrapped and delivered to the Kids Department by the deadline. Vroman’s is offering a 20% discount on eligible in-store purchases made for the program, excluding gift cards.
For those preferring to donate remotely, Vroman’s accepts online gift card purchases starting at $10. Donors are asked to include “Gift Card Donation for Giving Tree” in the checkout comments. Friends In Deed will match each gift card with a child’s snowflake to make their holiday brighter.
“Christmas for the Kids remains one of the highlights of our year,” said Tim Nistler, director of Friends In Deed’s Food Pantry, in a statement. “Every donation brings a little more magic to Christmas morning for the families we serve.”
Friends In Deed, which marked its 130th anniversary in 2024, operates five core programs in Pasadena and Altadena: a Food Pantry, The Women’s Room (a daytime shelter for homeless and at-risk women), Street Outreach and Housing, Bad Weather Shelter, and Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance. The organization depends on community support, grants and donations to sustain this program and its other services.
