City Committee to Consider Amendments to Municipal Code on Parking Regulations

The City Council’s Municipal Services is set to consider amendments to the City’s municipal code aimed at updating parking regulations and permit processes, according to a Department of Transportation memorandum.

The proposed changes to Title 10 of the Pasadena Municipal Code (PMC) would incorporate the current practice of issuing virtual parking permits using vehicle license plates instead of physical permits.

Updates to the PMC would address the application, cancellation, transfer, and enforcement of these virtual permits.

The amendments would also clarify that enforcement of City Property may occur at facilities as defined in Section 10.08.025 and replace the term “handicapped” with “disabled” to align with federal and state laws.

Additionally, the changes would specify size limits for vehicles eligible for virtual parking permits and allow parcels with Accessory Dwelling Units to apply for overnight virtual permits.

Obsolete provisions related to physical permits would be removed, as they are no longer applicable with the transition to virtual permits.

If approved as is, the proposal will be sent to the City Council for consideration.

If the Council OKs it, the City Attorney will have 60 days to draft an ordinance incorporating the recommended changes.

The proposed amendments are consistent with the City Council’s Core Value of Accountability and are not expected to have any fiscal impact or indirect costs, according to the Department of Transportation.
