A meeting will be convened at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Council Chambers, City Hall (100 N. Garfield Ave.), to focus on the potential interruption of federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in November.
The “urgent call to action” meeting called by Mayor Victor Gordo and Councilmember Justin Jones will be open to the public and livestreamed via Zoom at cityofpasadena.net/cczoom.
The session follows Monday night’s discussion in which councilmembers pressed for an immediate local response and explored holding the midweek meeting to address potential food-aid gaps.
City leaders moved Tuesday to assemble partners and brief the public on contingency plans ahead of November benefits deadlines.
Gordo and Jones issued a call for nonprofit, faith-based and philanthropic partners to participate, saying the goal is to coordinate a citywide plan to ensure vulnerable residents continue to have access to food if federal payments lapse.
City leaders have emphasized prioritizing seniors and homebound residents and bolstering capacity at Pasadena-based distribution sites so residents are not forced to travel outside city limits for assistance.
The council has also asked staff to circulate any updated distribution times, locations and partner lists to help members amplify information to constituents.
