The City of Pasadena joins communities nationwide in recognizing LGBTQIA+ Pride Month throughout June with a comprehensive series of events honoring the LGBTQIA+ community and commemorating the Stonewall Uprising.
The historic Stonewall Uprising in 1969 began when a police raid at a New York City gay bar sparked days of protests and resistance from the LGBTQ+ community. This pivotal event is widely recognized as the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement and is commemorated each June during Pride Month.
The programming reflects the city’s commitment to promoting equal justice and opportunity for LGBTQIA+ Americans.
Pride Month celebrates LGBTQIA+ contributions while memorializing the pivotal Stonewall Inn uprising in New York City, which marked a turning point in ending discriminatory laws against LGBTQIA+ people. Today, communities worldwide observe the month with events acknowledging the resilience and impact of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
